Freedom House opened in 2004 and is Portage County's transitional housing facility for homeless veterans. It is a 14-bed transitional housing facility for male veterans and is funded through the Department of Veterans Affairs Capital Grant and Per Diem Program. The facility is staffed 24-hours a day, seven days a week. The VA provides a liaison to work with staff and veterans to ensure they are receiving the best care possible. Veterans share rooms and are assigned basic work details to keep the building clean.
